Indeed, I haven't read every single post to this mailing list, so
it's entirely possible I've missed something.  Has there been
negative feedback other than from xfree86.org that wasn't
adequately addressed?  If so, must have got lost in the clutter.

I didn't realize X.org was still involved in the development of
the X Window System.  Perhaps X.org was just overlooked based on
incorrect assumptions.  Hard to say with certainty though as I'm
a participant rather than a confcall organizer.  I wouldn't even 
know whom to contact at X.org, but perhaps someone else does.

Alan Coopersmith and Bill Haneman were invited to the first
confcall but nobody has heard back from them.

I'm not sure I understand your point of asking such a question 
exactly.

Well, Keith and Jim have organized the confcalls, and I consider
them to be people who dedicate a lot of their personal time to
development of the X Window System, and related technologies,
with many years of experience sunk into it each, and continued
personal interests in the success of the X Window system.  So
yes, I would say volunteers have organized it.

More importantly though, is that people who have an interest in
developing a larger and more active community around the X Window
System have started these conference calls, and have done so with
good intentions for future progress of X in various ways other
than just the code.

The code is one part of it.  Building a community is another
aspect entirely.  Having these confcalls is a way to increase
communication between interested parties, and try to find ways in
which agreement and collaboration can be found.

So far it has turned out to be very good IMHO to discuss things
directly in realtime, even though the scope has been quite
limited so far.  It provides a level of very highly positive
communication, and from a variety of often quite differing
viewpoints in which email and/or IRC or other communcation
mechanisms don't always lend themselves to all of the time.

Definitely a progress of sorts IMHO.  I look forward to future 
calls.
