My take on this is *not* that Havoc is expecting that the Open Source 
community can drive XFree86's developers and force them to implement 
'much-needed new library API's and extensions', but rather not standing 
in the way of allowing them to *happen*.

I can see your point here, but I don't see that happening. Even if that 
was someone's agenda, we all know that it would never happen in practice 
anyway. You aren't going to scratch an itch unless you are personally 
interested or your employer is interested and pays you to do it. Same 
goes for me and I am sure the bulk, if not all, of the developers 
presently involved in XFree86.
