mission statement

I just read the XFree86Project Mission Statement.

I'm curious about a few things;

The statement states one of the project goals as "Protecting,
preserving, promoting and extending code stability, quality, design and
architectural direction", but does not state what architectural
directions are being taken. 

Someone have stated interest in this forum in "advancing the state of
opensource graphical desktop enviroments". Is this not part of XFree86's
mission? 

>From the statement I get the impression that XFree86 seeks only to
provide the best free implementation of whatever makes up the X
Windowing System, and that it won't pursure extending / enhancing /
evolving what makes up the X Windowing System. Does the XFree86 project
intend to leave that to others?
