new XFree86 server binary.  One of the issues I was hoping this forum might,
but seemingly failed to, solve.  I mean, wtf?  A whole new install for an
updated driver?  Why oh why?

In response to the problems with ATI, you (the XFree86 developers) say that
'drivers can be developed outside the core', citing NVidia as an example.

Why on earth do you not promote your own drivers to their own separate
project such that they can be maintained and updated independent of XFree86.
It stands to reason that the server and the drivers are *separate* entities.
