It's a "problem" because you depend on it. It's the doors to everything. Imagine a closed source drivers that need a drm granted access (with crypto) to play a sound or a video ? Or imagine that's you could only send WM9 mm stream ? In the other hand, i can understand why selling a hw product with almost no documentation about it is legal. In my linux where came the bugs ? NVIDIA closed source driver...
