I think short-term it's interesting; long-term it's meaningless. Money can be given; Management can squander.

A major CEO of a linux-based distro said recently to the press: "We have the strategy; it's the execution I worry about". Well that's everything. That's why Jim claiming it's the cheerleaders that are as important as the developer's is wrong and Egbert who argues elsewise is right.

THe similiar argument would be, because I do the web pages (a form of cheerleading) I am Xfree86. THe developers don't matter. I matter. My web pages are XFree86 and if they all left, and I mean every single last one of them
and I alone was here, I could keep up the facade that Xfree86 is current and meaningful and relevant. The idiocy of that comment doesn't even need to be
discussed. Developers? I doan need no stinking developers.

In the end, both open-source and free-software use the word source and software to make a statement about what they do. Not open-writing, community-work or any other twisted socio-political verbiage. And Jim should know this as he is part of the Open-source initiative org, so he does know how it runs. I see licenses up on that site; I don't see great webmaster, writers of the community posted. Perhaps though I am wrong, and I can apply there too for recognition.

BUt following Jim's comment up. How do I, as someone who does something for X11 join as a member of X.org the Foundation? I believe I am eligible. I believe based on Jim's comment I am relevant. ANd quite honestly ANdy, I think you are too.

SO jim, how do I become a member. I'm interested. I want to belong. I'm a cheerleader/writer/major supporter. I am relevant. Come here me roar.

PS This is a good time to announce that the whole website has been re-designed.
Tell me how you like/dislike it anywhere you like. devel, forum, webmaster.
I'm particularly interested in the new title bar feedback right now only on the front page. Lynx feedback, Tom are you listening, would be quite important.
Hey another supporter? O no, you code. NExt....
