MirOS BSD, http://www.mirbsd.de is a NetBSD/OpenBSD o/s geared towards the skilled system admin, primarily in the EU space, but not too upset if they are deployed elsewhere. The history of MirOS BSD is rather amusing. It seems that it's creator and founder, Thorsten Glaser, was kicked off Openbsd by Theo de Raadt, reasons unknown,(or should I say I don't know them) and so rightfully angry at being so dissed, he forked TdR and created his own brand. It seems that there is another BSD startup, this one based in Edmonton that was also miffed by TdR, and so they also forked him. You can read more at http://mirbsd.bsdadvocacy.org/?history about the whole thing. After you stop chuckling, you may want to consider MirOS BSD if you are want an open alternative to Solaris on Sparc based on OpenBSD (they seem to sync reguarly) that carries the latest XFree86 release. It aims for including the stability of NetBSD and adding its own punch of usability. Other platforms are in the works but of course hardware access is always an issue. It is a tall order, and MirOS BSD is a fledgling distro, but perhaps with some encouragement and solid feedback it will take flight. Anyway they do take security seriously as their website can be accessed by SSL (or alternatively not). Thanks Thorsten for the call and MirOS BSD for the support. Best of luck to both of you.
