I think it includes the broader picture somewhat - note the recent
development of MAS to add audio to the X environment.

Perhaps the new X.org will be more responsive to such things.

I also suggested a more IETF like model in private discussions on the
matter.  I'm not sure how closely the final proposal will match that
though.
