I have some thoughts on the issue of X testing. 1. Why is it that there is no bugzilla for XFree ? Reporting bugs at [email protected] hardly does the job. On the other hand, a bugzilla would allow lots of people to know what bugs _others_ have faced and track them too. There are lots of smart folks out there who develop/test X drivers but are not members of the XFree team. If the bug database is made publicly available, I am sure many fixes will flow in because a lot more people will be able to test for these bugs on their own hardware. Since this is an open-source project, nobody is required to fix any bugs. But a bugzilla will allow users to discuss these problems in a very structured way (compared to mailing-lists). And if the XFree developers want, they can also take a peek at the bug reports and decide which bugs deserve priority (since their brain power is limited). 2. Many of the mailing lists (Xpert in particular) have changed mode from rw to --. I can understand that they received junk mails/spams so posting had to be made subscribers only. But why would somebody need to be a subscriber in order to _read_ email postings ? I suggest that all these mailing lists be made at least readable to the world. thanks .... -
