Then it sounds like there is a real difference between reality and 
people's perception based on the discussion I've read here,  but then 
maybe that is from people that are not involved with XFree86.    It 
strikes me as reasonable that a lot of this could be resolved if there 
was a chance for people to get together and discuss the desktop and it's 
needs,   one of the Usenix conferences would be ideal if they could 
arrange a special desktop focus.    Most people's  perception is that 
the work being done on GNOME and KDE is more visible to the future of a 
UNIX/Linux X desktop than work being done on the core of X.  I think 
that Linux and it's surrounding projects have a real opportunity to make 
a difference and I'd hate to see this difficulty cause a split that sets 
it back.
