I thought about volunteering as an auditor earlier -- presume that would 
involve reading the relevant emails and expressing a judgement.  So, 
I'll volunteer.  

Maybe there are others more qualified / impartial?

Maybe there should be a committee (consisting of an odd number of 
"auditors"?)
