Well hopefully we can make it so that getting involved isn't so dependant on
one person.

none of these issues have been discussed on any public mailing lists, so how
could anyone make any progress?

This raises something i'd love to see: can we make the (old?) core
developers mailing list archives publicly viewable, so people such as myself
can get a handle on any current or long standing issues?
