The Gnome foundation members are elected. Gnome has a seperate arrangement
for company representation but that doesn't give them a say in the direction
of Gnome or in the specs.

Which just muddles the whole thing up as nobody dares call it X. End
result not the desired one.

I really don't know how it works out for X.org, for Gnome there are
companies who want Gnome to work willing to pay to make it work but at
the same time willing to accept that they pay to make it work not pay
to get a vote/say in things.
