(Un)fortunately, they keep wanting to make these devices cheaper; I expect
the same very slow evolution that made deep frame buffers take much longer
than I expected in 1988, as a result (about 8 years longer than I expected,
before 8 bit frame buffers became unusual!).  Once burned, three times
shy....

The other item to remember is that power consumption also mitigates
against lots of transistors.  Batteries are pretty brutal this way.

I'll bet you a dinner it is at least two generations before we have both
FPU's and any significant 3d rendering assist in these devices.

Understand, this is a bet I'd be very happy to lose :-).
