Umm, why?  xterm is still a _lot_ more useable than any of the gnome/kde
windowmanager.  twm is also nice to have - I switch back to after a
while everytime I install a new Linux Distribution when I'm finally fed
up with the desktop enviroment.

Now we could argue whether we really need one big X (or XFree) source
tree or should rather have Xserver, Xlib, <foo>extentsion, xterm,
twm, smaple-client packages.  I think such a split up would make lot of
sense and allow more fine-grained release.  I guess there's also
arguments against this, so people who have them please speak up.

Motif is not part of X, it's just yet another toolkit.  And lots of
applications still need it, even on Linux.
