And lots of | applications still need it, even on Linux. AFAIK, the only application which needs Motif (I use LessTif clone) is ... Macromedia Flash Plugin (for Netscape, also works with Konqueror) Besides, X still has own toolkit(s) - which is not used by GTK/Qt, AFAIK. (Athena widgets? X Toolkit Intrinsics ?) I hardly believe there is a chance to unite GTK and Qt at this moment, but we should make a step in right direction, by updating legacy X APIs and building up a possibility to combine/unite those tolkits in the future. As I said before, UI based on SVG/PS-like APIs sounds very promising, especially taking into consideration very light nature of Xr/Xc extensions. But first step, of course, is to get those extensions into XFree86 CVS (Carl Worth indicated that he is positive about this).
