Unicode and KDE

KDE 3.1.4
In any kde text editor  utf-8 input (georgian) works fine, but it seems it's 
not saved in unicode.
When I save and Open after I see ??????.
In GNOME editors (gedit) everything works fine.
p.s. I have not set utf-8 locale
