Yes, that worked great for me. I am now using Gentoo 1.4 and it appears all of the xv neomagic patches have been merged into portage. I haven't had to eject my PC card yet either ;-). I compiled Gentoo's XFree86 over the weekend, so if you are having lockups where you need to eject you may be running old code.
