'Not programming shadow registers' is an informational message. This is indicated by '(II)' at the beginning of this line in the log file. A warning would be '(WW)' and an error '(EE)'. As this was not the first time that this message was interpreted as an error message I have changed the code so that this message does not to appear in the standard logs now. KDE is known for being slow on startup. Usually it takes around 20 seconds until it is fully operational. However ten minutes seem to be *extremely* long. It is possible it is waiting for a device or something. However this has nothing to do with X as you seem to have no problems getting other desktops to run. I'd suggest you ask the KDE folks for further advice as this is the wrong mailing list to discuss KDE problems. Regards, Egbert.
