Garbage on my monitor

My video card is an ATI All In = Wonder Radeon PCI, and my monitor is a Viewsonic 15GA. I'm only a linux = newbie and was running Mandrake 8.0 on my machine and it worked fine. = Anyways I decided to switch to RH 8.0. The installation went smoothly, = then I got to the X-Server configuration section. I configured it and = click on test settings and everything was working fine. Anyways after = the installation was over and I rebooted every time RH booted it would = come up to the part where it should load the X-Server login screen and I = get garbage graphics on my monitor. The machine stops responding to = anything but the mouse cursor can still move around. Other than that it = is just a mixture or intermingling colors. I tried installing Mandrake = 9.0, and got the same results, and also got the same results using = Lindows 3.0. Finally I decided to install Mandrake 8.0, this worked fine = as before and thought I'd just upgrade the packages using Mandrake 9.0, = but to my utter disappointment the same thing happened again. Can anyone = tell me what the problem is and how to fix it?
