Anti-aliased fonts on MGA and ATI graphics boards

I am running XFree86-4.2 on FreeBSD-STABLE systems. I have machines
with MGA G400 and G450 graphics cards and one machine with an ATI
Rage128-RF card.

Recently, I have been looking at anti-aliased fonts. I have noticed
that the AA fonts look really nice on the ATI system but on the MGA
systems the fonts get sort of a blurry look. It almost looks like ink
spreading (if it were ink). The lines get thicker in some areas and
thinner in some other areas. Often, when scrolling in mozilla, the
fonts on the MGA system will get a squashed look. I do not see any of
this behavior on the ATI system.

Is this a known problem with MGA boards? Is there something I can tweak
to get things looking better. The version of freetype I am using is
2.0.9 and I am using the MS TrueType Web fonts.

Thanks.
