Xft(2)? in mozilla tree - AA the toolkit?

Folks, can you clue me in on whether mozilla-1.0.0 with it's private
copy of Xft in other-licenses/ (it seems to be Xft2 based) will AA
the GUI?

I tried 

configure --enable-default-toolkit=gtk2 --enable-xft --enable-freetype
	--with-freetype=/usr

I put GDK_USE_XFT=1 for gtk2. However, although the client pages use
AA fonts, the toolkit is using core fonts.

In prefs.js there is some magic to enable freetype - is there similar
magic to activate Xft2 to AA the GUI.
