I'd be willing to incorporate dithering into Render; we need a way of

Of course, dithering to a random colormap is rather harder than dithering 
to a plain color cube, so perhaps dithers would only be advertised for 
visuals with a color cube.  Suggestions are welcome, getting the spec 
right is the hard part here.
