The other argument for an XML based file is that it means that DTD's and/or schema's can be used to validate correctness and reduce the incidence of broken config files making your system unusable (while at least permitting manual editing if needed). Building YACL without this properly (yet another configuration language) at this date seems stupid (though I'll be the first to admit I'm not fond of angle brackets myself). I'm tired of mistakes in config files (like the XFree86 config file, one of my personal "love to hate" files) making my machine unusable. But Keith's arguments are based on first hand real experience of the last year. Some safely extensible format needs to exist, and this avoids reinventing many wheels...
