Whatever the (glorious) past, could we have (a 
variant of) control set more in line with the 
modern user expectations?

Like, Click/DblClick for opening (launching, 
eventually) the item and combos with special 
keys doing something else? Switchable by 
checking the box in Prefs.app?

This isn't against the religious dogma or unix 
way or something, I expect?

PS And yes, I'd implement this myself, like, 
only the code is tad too complicated for my very 
rusty programming skills.
