But nevertheless pleads in favor of some unification of the syntax of 
*nix conf files..

Strangely I don't remember WPrefs offering to convert the menus.. I 
remeber being stuck w/ this annoyance and while trying to figure out 
what was happening I decided to fire up wmakconf - see how it reacted. 
And wmakerconf gave m the option to do the conversion..

Yes thanks for clearing this up a bit.. though I don't understand your 
explanations about adding the Debian menu back.. but since you're saying 
it's quite simple I should be able to figure it out.

What's less clear is why Debian's effort at a generalized menu system 
does not work w/ wmaker out-of-the-box..
