Short version: When you run an application you get two objects, MiniWindow (similar to a button on a taskbar) and AppWindow which you can drag either to Dock or to Clip. Dock is same for all workspaces; Clip is specific to each workspace, you can drag it around, it can be 'always on top', it can 'autohide' docked items etc. Very very nice :-) Long version: You will get it yourself ...
