You need to create a ~/.xinitrc file, I have this in mine (this also launches the screensaver and ssh-agent): xscreensaver & exec ssh-agent sh -c 'ssh-add < /dev/null & RunWM --WindowMaker' Just use this if you don't need ssh-agent or a screensaver: exec RunWM --WindowMaker This uses /usr/X11R6/bin/RunWM to launch windowmaker.
