most likely the pager uses the gnome1 hints, which are no longer supported 
since 0.90.0. instead, window maker now uses the NetWM specification which is 
in use by both gnome2 and kde3. support for netwm should be enabled by 
default, so you can use any pager that supports the netwm specs.

This should be fixed in latest cvs. This only happened after you close an 
application window in a maximized state and then start it later. netwm 
compliant applications will use some hints to start maximized as they were 
before, but window maker doesn't know the old geometry and unmaximize didn't 
work.
