no the OP refers to a "Focus-Follows-Mouse" setup (called "Auto" in  
"Input Focus Mode" tab of Preferences app), where the following happens  
(and yes it would annoy me if I used the alt-tab stuff):

- Move first window to center of screen.
- Move second window to the side of this window, second window must not  
overlap center of screen.
- Move mouse to center of screen, first window will be active.
- Press alt-tab until second window is active (mouse must be in switch  
panel area now).
- Release Alt.

In this sequence of events, the first window gets reactivated  
immediately. There's no chance to give input focus to second window.  
The mouse has not been moved at all.
