starting applications maximized

Hello,

I like to start some applications maximized like galeon or
mozilla-thunderbird to use the full desktop.
The problem is when I set the window attribute "start maximized" that
all windows belonging to that program start maximized too (like "compose
new email"). But when I do not set the "start maximized" attribute the
first thing I do after starting the application is to maximize the window!
So is there any possibility to prevent subwindows like dialog windows to
start maximized too?
