Install wsoundserver using apt-get.  Turn on sounds in wprefs on the
'Other Configurations' page.  Edit ~/GNUstep/Defaults/WMSound to tell
the soundserver what to play when an event happens.  I am using alsa,
but did not have to do anything with it in conjunction with
wsoundserver.  As long as alsa works before, wsoundserver has worked,
and on quite a few different machines.  Just check that you can play
sounds with 'play' or 'aplay'.  That will reveal any permission
issues; your user needs to be in the audio group.
