As usual Richard, a sharp pencil and good suggestions.

 - I changed all titles back to Italic

 - left in that last quoted sentence because it help give the reader a sense of Kemley's style

 - other grammar and spelling is updated

 - changed to "I've read", to keep it accurate for this OR. However, I do disagree with your comment - why couldn't I have read "all the classic books" in the backpacking genre? I have actually read (and browsed) a great many, some classics, many not. Of course you and I, and our readers, will no doubt disagree on exactly which titles constitute a complete list of the "classics".

 - "cruft" is defined by Oxford Dictionary as "Badly designed, unnecessarily complicated": in my sentence I'm implicating other (unnamed) authors' discussions. Although the word seems to have come from the software profession (hence my use of it), I've seen it used in outdoor journalism and I think readers will understand it if I leave it in.
