I first became addicted to backpacking in 2009 when I hiked the Berg Lake trail in B.C. Alberta. During the Summer days I will try and go on a day hike around my cabin every single day. I like to be prepared, so if that means my bag my be a little bit heavier, then that is fine. I like to hike in the mountains and have encountered snow and numerous days of rain on some on my trips.

I have used these shoes a ton over the last few years doing different hikes in all sorts conditions. The first time I used them was on a day hike in British Columbia. This hike is quite steep and rocky. The first thing I noticed about these shoes are how protected your soles are from sharp rocks and tree roots. With the carbon fiber bottom, you can barely feel anything on your soles! I used these shoes almost every day for the entire Summer doing these day hikes and they are still in great condition. Since these shoes come with the Omni-Grip, I was worried that the grip might begin to break off since the grips are quite skinny, but they are ann intact! The big test for these shoes was when I climbed Whistlers Mountain in Jasper, Alberta. This trail starts off as a dirt trail in the mountains but quickly turns into shale and very sharp rocks. Again, I barely felt any of the sharp rocks and I had great grip the whole time. The big question I had about these shoes was, how waterproof are these shoes? So I tested them in a creek. I dipped my entire foot into the creek (stopped before the water went over top of the shoe) and left it in the water for a little bit. I took my foot out of the water and my socks were still completely dry. I have also used these shoes in the mud where they kept my feet dry and actually gripped nicely!

SUMMARY
I love these shoes and I would really reccomend them for people who like low cut hiking shoes. After all of the use they have been through they are still in great condition, laces are good and I have had no problems with them at all. The three part Techlite midsole allows for multiple density settings for cushioning and support. The midfoot Techlite platform allows for consistent cushioning throughout your stride while the rearfoot Techlite platform allows for consistent cushioning throughout your stride. The leather overlays allow for durability and protection combined with an innovative Outdry waterproof system to keep moisture away and allow for breathability. It has an internal TPU shank for torsion control and an Omni-Grip high traction rubber compound meant for all outdoor conditions. The synthetic mesh body allows for a lightweight feel and breathability. There is a Techlite tongue top for fit and relief from unwanted lace pressure.
I am unable to find these shoes on the Columbia website, but I was able to find the brown version of these shoes in Amazon <LINK 2>
THINGS I LIKE
I love how solid the sole is. The carbon fiber does a great job of protecting your feet from sharp objects like rocks and tree roots. The Omni-Grip is great for all terrain whether you are hiking on dirt, grass or even mud! They are 100% waterproof and they dry very quickly. After having them for about three years, I still have the original laces and they are almost in perfect condition. For everything these have to offer, they are also very light.
THINGS I DON'T LIKE
The only thing I do not like about these is that the back of the shoe is tilted inwards a bit and if you do not have proper sicks the shoe can dig in to your Achilles tendon and leave blisters.
