I have been backpacking and camping since I was young but have recently began to regain some more interest in it. I am now planning on assembling some gear of my own to begin camping and hiking on a more regular basis. I enjoy hammock camping the most for its simplistic and lightweight capabilities. I envision a camping trip this fall to the Rocky Mountains with a small group of friends.

This is a single wide hammock with the max weight listed online as 200 lbs but listed as 250 lbs on the inside wash tag. It is available in the colors of blue, green and camo. The hammock comes stuffed in the side stuff sack and has 2- 2 1/4 inch S hooks attatched with the hammock for suspension.

FIELD USE


I have owned this hammock over a year and a half after receiving it as a gift from my parents. This hammock has been used everywhere and for everything including: indoors in my dorm, outside for lounging and reading, and as a means of shelter during some camping trips.


Most recently I took a trip down around the Great Smoky Mountains area in Southern Tennessee. While there, I slept in this hammock on a 40% grade hill and in a humid heat index of somewhere around 80 F. The hammock held up quite well and I slept soundly except for my sleeping position was altered somewhat because of the size of the hammock which left me with a sore neck.


Something I dislike about this hammock is the size. I am 6'2" so I'm definitely not the biggest person who could use this hammock and there isn't quite enough room for me to lay comfortably diagonal without my feet sticking out. With that said, Grand Trunk does mention on their website that it "is best suited to younger hangers." Another small annoyance is the outside hems on this hammock like to roll if any <<IMAGE GOES HERE. ALT TEXT = "IMAGE 1"  IMAGE CAPTION = "Gathered-style hammock and S hook suspension">> pressure is put on them. One thing to note is the S hook suspension that is provided can only be removed by cutting them off or untying the ropes and rethreading through the ends of the hammock.

SUMMARY


This hammock is a fair starter for anyone considering trying hammock camping but keep in mind is not made for larger adults. If you are on a tight budget, it can be good enough to convert you and has one of the least burdensome price tags if it doesn't impress you.
