Recently here in the Desert Southwest we've had a few folks die of heat exhaustion while attempting dayhikes during our extreme summer temperatures. While tragic and likely preventable these occurrences always make me think of how each of us can make our own hiking experiences safer, more enjoyable and less taxing on our bodies. To that end, the August Call for Owner reviews is for gear fitting into these four catagories: Health & Safety, Personal Hygiene, Knives, and any items that specifically aide hikers with maintaining their core body temperature in hot and/or humid conditions. Great opportunity to be creative here folks!! If you're stumped, please refer to the http://www.backpackgeartest.org/reviews/ page for sub-categories and ideas of what others have already been reviewing. Obviously, original items not already listed are strongly encouraged as long as they fit BGT standards. The fine print: ORs do not need to comply with the Monthly Call to be posted in any given month.
