Hi, Jade, Someone has already mentioned [email protected] Shane was the first person that I thought of when I read that you live in southern LA. Eric seems not to have held back much with his comments about Louisiana. My family lived outside of New Orleans for a summer when I was 16. (Temporary asignment for my father) I didn't see much other than our apartment complex and the French Quarter, IIRC. I found it to be a GREAT place to visit, at least. Another site to check out is hikinghq.net. That site can be a bit "off-color" and topics do not always relate to hiking, but SGT Rock was stationed at Fort Polk and he will likely remember places you might be able to hike/backpack. I have gotten some great info there over the years. I will attempt to send you a PM about the women-specific group. Good Luck! I'm thinking of hitting up the Kisatchie National Forest in the near future as it's roughly 2 hours from me and one of only 2 in the state. I've never been there so I'm hoping its a nice place as i'll probably be spending alot of time there. I was looking at Hot Springs, AR and the AR parts of the Ozark as being relatively close (6-8 hours from me). (SNIP)
