OK before we get to far off topic,

There are two groups that are talking past each other.

1) there are those technical folks who will rightly claim that all
things are chemicals. So when folks say they want to do without
chemicals, we wonder how long they will last without air and water
(both chemicals).

2) what they are really saying is they wish to do without as many
artificial chemicals as possible. This also confuses me, since I see
artificial chemicals as greatly enhancing human life.

3) I also get confused by the "good ole days" argument. Life was
short and in many ways more miserable than my comfortable life I have.

4) but one of the key parts of this particular discussion group is
"Hike your own hike" and certainly applies to life. So if you wish to
do without chemicals, go for it, but realize that it sounds silly to
me when you use an imprecise term.

5) And continuing the chemical / no chemical discussion seems rather pointless.

6) and as this thread was started by a specific question about catnip,
in order for the information to be useful to me, I want to know DOES
IT WORK? "Chemicals like DEET work, if catnip works as well, I might
try it, but what will my already psycho cats think?
