Use a cut open old collapsible bladder as a scope. As described in Section Hiker's review and tips. http://sectionhiker.com/sawyer-squeeze-water-filter-system/ I have also replaced the push-pull cap with a Smart Water top that has a spout with attached cap. Since you developed a seam leak right away - would Sawyer replace or refund?
