Silverjay,

I think that has a lot to do with why we are all on this list, but your question is too vague to be answered easily.

Some questions back, and your answers will help us answer you better?

1) Do you have any back problems to begin with?  Shoulder issues?
2) What gear do you carry?
3) How heavy is your loaded pack t begin with?
4) What kind of hiking are you doing with it? on trail? off trail? climbing? biking? etc...
5) What can you afford right now?
6) Are you willing to consider gear alternatives to things besides your backpack?
7) How do you load your pack?
8) What kind of shape are you in?
9) How experienced are you in terms of backpacking?
10) What kind of hiker are you? Do you like to enjoy the hike or hike to enjoy the campsites?
11) How much food/water do you carry?
12) Do you hike with others so you can share gear to lighten loads?

Stuff like that will help us offer you answers to your questions.
