The first and best thing you can do is buy a postage scale so you can come to grips with what you really have on your back and what makes up that weight! Then start eliminating duplicates/redundancy and scrutinize, scrutinize & scrutinize some more every item.....

Jim gave a general sense of what sorts of changes you might make which could drop you down to around a 10lb base weight + 1-2lbs / day for food. I would add that if your specific problem s your bag, getting a pack with a good suspension (e.g. gets all the weight onto your hips) will be more important than minimizing weight. This means a pack that fits perfectly. You might find an off the rack pack which works well, or you might want to concern a custom made pack made to your exact dimensions such as McHale Packs.
