i have a kindle paperwhite, it's the newish ones with the backlight but still pretty basic so has a decent battery life. I loved my old kindle (original one) but the only downside for me was not having a backlight. When my kids broke it (stepped on it) i got a tablet and while i like the tablet having to charge daily or every other day is not realistic for bringing backpacking. So when kindle brought the paperwhite out to be sold I was thrilled. I finally got one this month and love it.. It's pretty small and seems really lightweight but i'm not sure the exact size/weight. I personally would stick to one of the name brands (nook or kindle) rather than using something that you may not be able to get books for in a few years..Also with the nook or kindle you can get apps for either and transfer books between tablets, computers, and smartphones. Just my opinion.. Jade
