You might also check your local REI to see if they have a bargain area. The Bloomington, MN REI has a room where they feature mainly items that have been returned. Since REI has a very generous return policy, they get a lot of returns that need to be sold at a deep discount. The stock turns over quickly so you can check back and often find exactly what you need. Keep in mind, though, that there are no dividends on these items and they are sold "as is" with no returns allowed.
