almost never -- if you asked someone for the link to something specific 
and he sent you the link in response to your request, it's okay to click 
on the link. But if a link just lands in your inbox? Dude. Don't. Just 
don't. As an email administrator, my mail server fills up with the 
results on a daily basis even *with* SpamAssassin, clamav, dnsrbl, and a 
multitude of other anti-spam software scrubbing as fast as they can, 
thanks to all the idiots who clicked on links in their email and 
inadvertently added their computer to the world-wide spam server farm 
spewing happy tripod pill spams to the whole world. And that's best 
case. Worst case, some Men In Black show up at your door asking why your 
computer is being used to try to hack the Pentagon. Just sayin'.

The particular email referenced by AuntieCoosa, btw, is part of a Yahoo 
password stealing scheme. Click on it, and your Yahoo account is 
hijacked and used to send spams thanks to flaws in Yahoo's session 
management, making you look like an idiot at best, or causing your 
employer to fire you as a spammer at worst if your boss gets happy 
tripod pill spam from your Yahoo account. Just don't click. Please.
