Years ago I bought a TNF GoreTex rain jacket that leaked. After complaining on Backpacker Magazine forums (I did say "years ago"), a Rep at Gore contacted me & had me mail in the jacket for testing. Turns out the GoreTex cloth was riddled with pinholes & was defective. They apologized & replaced the jacket with a brand new one. 

After that experience ... I recommend contacting the manufacturer when an item isn't as advertised.
