I'm reading a great book right now ... It explains how anecdotal evidence is used in/by politicians to "prove" predetermined "scientific" results ...  Results not scientifically verified & conducted by Non-scientists. Government Agencies use this information to their own ends (to get more funding for themselves & those Colleagues who agree with their "evidence" EVEN in the face of conflicting evidence)
