have you had your torso measured, that is only a starting point.  What I observed while I was at the Gathering of the Gear Geeks as both Grant from Gossamer Gear and Ron from Six Moon Designs, is that any one backpack can fit a variety of people differently.  When you are trying the packs on, are you putting weight in them, it would seem to me that would affect how if fits and contours to your body.   Maybe going outside of the box would work, find a pack designed for say a teen boy or girl, find a daypack with space for overnight trips.  I think it is one of those things that they may make packs that fit 8/10 people, but for 2/10, it is going to be a lot of work to find something that works.
