James, thanks for the link and info on the PurifiCup.

Bryce, your correct, the PurifiCup filter would be VERY expensive and make note that it 
filters 12 gallons not 25 gallons.

Quoting the web page for the $60 PurifiCup filter:
"each filter provides up to 12 gallons (100-150 cups) of pure water"
[hmmmm - which is accurate 12 gal or 100 cups ???]

At that rate is would cost roughly $1200 (or $600) to filter my water for the PCT (20 
weeks x one filter per week using about 7 liters per day).
My Sawyer squeeze is expected to last the full 2600+ miles and filter out everything I 
expect to find in any of the water I filter from even the mud puddles, stagnate ponds, 
and glacier streams.

I have a "cup" filter that I used back in the 80s which appears to be the same 
design and filtering capabilities as the PurifiCup. It worked very well, could be quickly 
to pulled out and used, and best of all my daughters (at 5 yrs old) could easily use it 
without errors. [BTW - those 4 daughters are now in their 30s]
