Heh, I've been to Florida several times and I know exactly what you are
talking about.


The half marathons and being acclimated to heat will be quite helpful, but
if you can get out west to get some experience backpacking at altitude,
that will also be helpful.  Humidity is less of an issue, but what you'll
face instead are less oxygen at high altitude, more changeable temperatures
especially lower temperatures at night, and the possibility of being above
treeline when thunderstorms roll in.  Although being in FL you're probably
used to the thunderstorm aspect, perhaps even in treeless areas (waterways
and some swamps).
