BART just published "Lock It-Don't Lose It!" - tips on how to lock your bike safely and securely at BART stations. These techniques work anywhere you park your bike, of course. The BART Bicycle Advisory Task Force contributed to this downloadable PDF. 

BEST TECHNIQUE = 2 U-locks, one per wheel, locked through both the frame and the rack.
